Frequently Asked Questions

Why use ECF.
Thoughts to consider:

Tax Advantaged and Professional

Contributions to the Eastland Community Foundation qualify for maximum income, gift and estate tax deductions. ECF can receive many types of assets, and will work with your trusted personal advisors to incorporate your charitable wishes into an estate or financial plan. ECF professionalism assures maximum impact on community needs...now and in the future.
Convenient and Efficient
Each fund is maintained separately, but pooling funds for investment and administration increases efficiency. ECF writes and mails checks, monitors results and handles reporting, legal and audit requirements. When compared to establishing and administering a private foundation, ECF offers increased flexibility and deductibility for gifts.
Simple and Flexible
A new fund can be established with a simple agreement. Almost any type of charitable giving can be accomplished through a fund at the Eastland Community Foundation, whether you want to support a specific organization or a broad range of interests. Grants can be made to any nonprofit organization in the name of your fund or anonymously.
Community Knowledge
The Eastland Community Foundation knows the needs and assets of Eastland. Foundation staff and board members work closely with nonprofits to improve community life and address challenges. They are available to share this knowledge and help customize a giving plan that is rewarding for donors and meaningful for the community.
Accountable and Permanent
ECF is managed by an active volunteer Board of Directors who are charged with the stewardship of each donor's charitable intent and the public interest. Endowment funds are managed so that gifts made today will provide benefits to residents for generations to come.

Who can establish a fund at the Foundation?
Non-profit organizations, but individual funds (donor-advised) are welcomed as well. Donors can use their individual funds to reach their charitable goals at many different times in their lives:

Giving Now

Creation of a fund at the ECF will allow the charities you now support to continue to receive that support during your lifetime and in perpetuity.
Future Giving
There are many attractive arrangements for future, of deferred gifts. The result may be an increased in current spendable income for you and your family and later, a substantial fund to help others in Eastland.
Planned Gifts Through Wills and Estates
After providing for your loved ones, you might consider creating a fund or adding to one you currently have with the ECF. Estate taxes are saved and a living memorial is created through a named fund.

How does an individual fund work?
An individual donor signs a Donor Advised Fund Agreement with the ECF that identifies the name and purpose of the fund. He then may transfer assets to the fund and may recommend grants from it to qualified charities. All funds and grants are subject to Board approval.
